Playing a friend

Send a private link, and the first person to open it takes the other seat. No accounts, no chat, a three-minute move clock.

You can play any board game against someone else, wherever they are, with a private link.

Start a game

  1. Open Play a friend (or start a duel from the lobby) and pick a game.
  2. The page shows a private link. Copy it, or share it however you like. Nothing is emailed or sent for you.
  3. The first person to open the link takes the other seat, and the game begins.

The link works once. When both seats are taken, nobody else can join or watch.

Every board game can be played live. Spy Games can't, because it is for one player.

The clock

Each move has three minutes. A player who runs out of time loses that game. Closing the tab does not end a game by itself; only the clock does.

Reloading and coming back

Reloading the page in the same browser returns you to your game: your browser keeps the game's ID until it ends. While you wait for your friend to arrive, the invite link is also kept for that one tab, so a reload doesn't lose it.

What the other player sees

Only your moves. There is no chat, and you are never connected to each other directly, so neither of you sees the other's name, location or IP address.

A live game is stored on Cognivo's server so that both of you reach the same game. Finished and abandoned games are deleted 30 days after their last move. Your data has the details.
