Labs

The tools we build while making Cognivo's games. Each one exists because a game needed it, and whatever you make in one, a game can play straight away.

Experimental

Level Lab

Paint a level on a grid, place the start, the lantern and everything in between, check it can be finished, and play it in the game with one click. It makes levels for both Ember and Delve, and every level they ship is a Level Lab file.

Experimental

Sprite Lab

Draw and recolour the games' pixel art: paint, fill and pick colours, change the palette, duplicate and mirror frames, add a new sprite, and watch the animations that use it. It opens Ember's and Delve's art, downloads it in the format they ship, and play-tests it in the game.

Experimental

Animation Lab

Put a sprite's frames in order, set the speed and whether it loops, and watch it play as the game will. It works on the same art as Sprite Lab, and Ember and Delve can play with it: switch your art on or off from either game's level menu.

Your work stays in this browser, and you can download anything you make as a file to keep. What ships with the games is chosen by the Cognivo team.

Coming next, one at a time. Each arrives connected to a game, so what you make in it is something a game can use.

  • Dialogue Lab

    Branching conversations with choices.

It arrives with someone to talk to in Delve.

  • Logic Lab

Doors, keys and triggers, as settings rather than code.

It arrives when Delve's keys and doors become settings in a level.
