Accessibility
Playing with the keyboard, a screen reader, voice, or with motion turned down, and how to tell us what doesn't work.
Last updated
Cognivo aims to be playable however you use a computer or phone. This page says what works today, game by game. The commitments themselves are on the Accessibility page.
Keyboard
- Menus, links and buttons all work from the keyboard, with a visible focus outline.
- Chess can be played entirely by typing moves in the command box, such as
e2e4,Nf3orcastle short. See Playing the computer. - The arcade games are keyboard games first; their keys are in Keyboard shortcuts.
- Sprite Lab can be drawn in without a mouse: the arrow keys move a cursor on the picture and
Spacepaints. - The docs open search with
Ctrl+Kor/.
Screen readers
Pages use real headings, landmarks and labelled controls. In a game, whose turn it is and how the game ended are announced as they change.
Voice
In chess you can speak your moves ("knight to f3") with Start Voice, in browsers with speech recognition. Every lesson on Learn has a Listen button that reads it aloud.
Colour and motion
- The two sides' colours are chosen to stay apart for colour-blind players.
- When your system asks for reduced motion, Cognivo calms its animations: board moves, lessons and Spy Games settle down, and the labs' animation previews start paused.
- Nothing on the site flashes or strobes.
Telling us what doesn't work
If something can't be done the way you play, use Send a report on Help, or email support@cognivo.digital. Say which game or page, and how you were using it.
