From Labs to the catalogue
How something made in the Labs can ship in a game, and what happens to everything else you make.
Last updated
The Labs are where things are made; the games on cognivo.digital are chosen. Nothing made in the Labs reaches a game by itself.
What you can do with what you make
- Everything stays in your browser on labs.cognivo.digital, and works there straight away: play test it in the game, as often as you like.
- Download saves it as a file, in the same format the games ship (level file, sprite sheet file). Keep it, share it, and Import it again on any device.
- Nothing you make is published, listed or shared by Cognivo.
Offering a level for a game
If you would like Cognivo to ship something you made:
- In the lab, tick Allow Cognivo to use this. The permission is saved in the file (
"cognivoMayUse": true). - Download it, and email the file to support@cognivo.digital, saying which game it is for and how you would like to be credited (or not). A file without the permission isn't used.
- The team plays it to the end, and checks that it can be finished, is fair (no frame-perfect jumps, no key behind its own door), and isn't a copy of another game's level.
- If it is accepted, it is added to the game as it is, with no conversion, and credited on Acknowledgements if you wish.
Why it works this way
A catalogue anyone could publish to would need accounts, moderation and a takedown process. Keeping what ships in the team's hands keeps the games' quality, and keeps Cognivo's privacy promises: nothing of yours is stored on Cognivo's server unless you send it.
