Your data at a glance
What stays in your browser, what reaches Cognivo's server and for how long, and how ads and consent work. The full detail is on the Privacy and Cookies pages.
Last updated
Cognivo has no accounts and asks for nothing that identifies you: no name, no email address, no password. This page is the short version. Privacy, Cookies and tracking and Terms are the full, binding text.
In your browser
Kept in your browser's storage, on your device only:
- your board and piece theme, and other display preferences;
- lesson progress on Learn, and Spy Games scores;
- arcade best times, progress, your best Endless run, your Daily results for the last 30 days, and whether sound is on;
- the levels and art you make in the Labs, and whether a game plays your art;
- the live game or tournament you are in, so a reload doesn't lose your seat.
Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it.
On Cognivo's server
- An anonymous player record, set only when you play another person. It is a random value in a cookie,
cognivo_device, that page scripts can't read. It lets the server know which seat in a live game is yours, and nothing in it identifies you. It is deleted after a year in which it isn't used to play anyone. To use it on another device, make a one-time transfer code; codes expire after fifteen minutes. - Games against the computer are held in the server's memory while you play, and are not linked to you.
- Live games and tournaments are stored, because both players must reach the same game. Finished and abandoned games are deleted 30 days after their last move, and finished tournament rooms 30 days after they end. A used or expired invite code is deleted a day later.
- Reports you send from Help reach the team.
Ads and analytics
Ads from Google AdSense pay for Cognivo, and Google Analytics counts visits. Both set cookies. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google asks for your consent first. Every cookie, how long it lasts, and how to change your choices are on Cookies and tracking. The games all work with ads blocked.
What Cognivo never does
- It never sells data.
- It never shows another player your name, location or IP address. Players are never connected to each other directly, and there is no chat.
