Play a friend

Pick a game, send the link

You get a private link. The first person to open it takes the other seat. Nobody else can join, and nobody needs an account. For a group, instead.

How playing a friend works

Every board game on Cognivo can be played live against someone else, wherever they are: chess, checkers, Reversi, Connect Four, Nine Men's Morris, Ultimate Tic-Tac-Toe, Hex and Dots and Boxes. Spy Games can't, because it is for one player. Pick a game here and you get a private link. Copy it or share it however you like; nothing is emailed or sent for you.

The first person to open the link takes the other seat and the game begins. The link works once: when both seats are taken, nobody else can join or watch. Neither of you needs an account.

Each move has three minutes. A player who runs out of time loses that game; closing the tab does not end a game by itself. Reloading the page in the same browser brings you back to your game, and while you wait for your friend the invite link is kept for that tab.

Your friend sees only your moves. There is no chat, and you are never connected to each other directly, so neither of you sees the other's name, location or IP address. A live game is kept on Cognivo's server so you both reach the same game, and finished or abandoned games are deleted 30 days after their last move.

Playing a group? Open a tournament from the lobby instead: one link for everyone, and a knockout bracket for up to 32 players.
